Allworx originally started out as an engineering consulting firm for blue-chip clients such as General Electric, Kodak, and Emerson, but transitioned into VoIP communications, introducing their first system in 2003.

In October 2007, they were acquired by PAETEC, which was itself purchased by Windstream in August 2011. As such, some of their phone models carry various branding.
